In fact, like I mentioned in my latest comment below, this is also similar (and faster) just by selecting all associated nodes and pressing ‘F’ to connect them.
I’m not sure how Greg is planning on developing this further to improve upon the existing feature though.
Greg, how else will this be extended? Because currently, as of my version of Blender 2.69.1 r60623, it is still way faster to select all associated nodes and press ‘F’ to connect them all.
Can this be done using just one sweep?

i love how i used to connect the nodes in Flame/Smoke compositors, by kissing their input/outputs while holding ctrl =)
